FIND COQUINA:
This page shows some of the details and links for the radio tracking system I have aboard Coquina.

If Coquina shows up in an outlined box, click in the box for a detailed chart of the area.

Are we getting rained on? This shows our location referenced to the weather radar.

Coquina on Findu.com - This link will take you to the latest reported position of Coquina, show you the location of the boat on several "street atlas" type maps as well as a satellite photo of the area, and give you our course and speed if we are moving.

Coquina on APRS.FI - This is a similar service with a slightly different layout and bigger map page.

How it works:
The system is called APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System). It was invented by Robert Bruninga (WB4APR) and used initially to track Naval Academy vessels. What the system does is basically to transmit NMEA data from a GPS via ham radio to other stations. Some of these stations will then relay the information to the Internet, which is how you are able to see me on this web site.

This photo shows the APRS equipment aboard Coquina.
Looking from left to right:
On the chart table: Kenwood TS-440 ham/ssb radio. it is not presently connected
to the APRS system, but it will be in the future.
Above the chart table: Standard-Horizon VHF radio linked to the GPS. While this
is not part of the APRS system either, it is DSC capable.
On the bulkhead: There is a 2 meter ham radio that transmits the APRS signal on
144.39 MHz. Just below that is the Tiny Track device that translates NMEA signals
to radio signals. To the right of that is the Magellan GPS-315 that provides position
information in NMEA format to the VHF, Tiny Track, and laptop computer.
